Humanity for Prisoners

Humanity for Prisoners, along with the Bookman, is honored to welcome Best-Selling Author and Activist Sister Helen Prejean to Grand Haven.
In 1982 Sister Prejean became the spiritual advisor to Patrick Sonnier, a convicted killer sentenced to die in the electric chair.  Her relationships with Sonnier, the victim’s family  and the men whose job it is to execute, prompted her to write the book “Dead Man Walking” and to create the organization SURVIVE to help victim’s families.
Sr. Prejean’s book was made into a powerful movie starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn and sparked the national debate about the death penalty.
Come meet sister Prejean, hear her discuss her experience and update our community on the current status of the debate.
